Speeding in Summers Landing
Speeding is on ONGOING CONCERN in Summers Landing as it is in every community.
The consensus at the last Annual Meeting was that speeding was a problem with no easy solution. The speed limit on all Summers Landing roads is 25 MPH. Whether or not one believes that 25 MPH is too low or too high is irrelevant because that is Spotsylvania County, Virginia law. Anyone exceeding 25 MPH is violating county and state laws. It is also not uncommon for a vehicle to roll though a stop sign instead of coming to a complete stop and then proceeding when it is safe to do so.
The BoD will be asking Spotsylvania County Sherriff's Deputies for more enforcement, recognizing that the Spotsy County Sherriff's Office has limited resources for such enforcement. In the past when the Sherriff instituted an enforcement campaign, a lot of the issued tickets went to our Summers Landing Residents, and sometimes even to the people who complained the loudest about people speeding.
Summers Landing Residents concerned about excessive speeding on their street are advised to first gather information about the day of the week, time of day, and even descriptions of specific vehicles speeding before call that information in to Spotsy County Sherriff's Office. The more specific the information, the more likely we are to get a patrol car in the area at that time and location.
The Spotsylvania County Sherriff's Office non-emergency number is (540) 582-7160.
